Indulging the Hypochondriac

From an initial investigation into air-pollution - an anthropogenic weather typology - and its pernicious effects germinated a more inward reflection on the psychological implications of today’s state of environmental decay.

“Hypochondria” is a psychopathology characterised by an oppressive preoccupation with self-preservation, disproportionately precautious behaviour, and hyper-sensitivity to perceived medical risk factors.

A series of interventions were devised to exaggeratedly mitigate select medical, and existential risks. In addition to broadcasting the mounting physiological impact of our hostile urban environments, the ambition of this apartment retrofit was to explore how an occupant/designer’s perceptual idiosyncrasies might transform the built environment.
